It floats around for a few days and then sticks to a solid to begin its growth into an adult sponge. Swordfish — This type of fish loses all scales by adulthood. This group of shrimps has 8 sets of legs. Also known as bivalves (two valves), the clam family contributes a lot of shell material to the sea floor and beaches. It is estimated that one shark alone brings about $120,000 from tourism revenue each year. It has two structures on its head that look like rabbit ears, hence its name. They are usually moving, partially buried, with the periscope like black siphon extended. Harvesting of eggs have been made illegal and research projects of incubating and hatching the eggs in temperature-controlled rooms have been undertaken to save this endangered marine species.

Marine habitats can be divided into coastal and open ocean habitats. Blood worms leave many surface holes in the sandy beach if the tide has been low for some time. It and other species perch on corals to clean the corals and passing fish. It’s estimated that this “plastic island” contains 3.5 million tons of trash and could double in size in the next 5 years. Our Sea Life Safari Boat Tour is one of the most popular activities at CMA.
